ASMA KAZMI

Assistant Professor Asma Kazmi: A Dedicated Realist Artist and Academic
Dr. Asma Kazmi is an assistant professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh. She has been teaching in the department since 2003 and holds an academic career spanning 21 years at AMU. A thoroughly first-class student, she earned a gold medal in her MFA from AMU in 1994. She later completed her Ph.D. in 1998 from the same university, focusing on Islamic art forms in Iranian painting. Her master’s level research on Religious Elements in Italian Art: Michelangelo’s Reflection was published in the USA in 2012. Additionally, her Ph.D. thesis has been accepted for publication by the Iran Culture House, New Delhi.
Dr. Kazmi is a dedicated realist portrait artist with expertise in capturing intricate emotions and details using both traditional and modern techniques. She has 35 years of experience in fine arts and specializes in Islamic art, portraiture, landscape, calligraphy, illustration composition, and miniature painting.
Dr. Asma Kazmi has created many portraits, including those of Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India. Dr. Naveen Chandra Ramgoolam, the former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Farooq Abdullah, a leader from Kashmir; Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany; Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom; and Ayatollah Khomeini, the Iranian religious reformer. Bediuzzaman Said Nursi, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Allamah Ali Naqi Naqvi, Ibn Sina, Ibn Al-Haytham, Naseeruddin Shah, and approximately one ex- Vice Chancellor, around twenty one others, as well as many portraits of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Frank Islam and his wife, Professor Ved Prakash, and O.P. Singh, DG (Director General) of Lucknow.

She has been honoured with the National Award by All India Women Artists Chandigarh, India, and has been recognized as the Best Women Artist. She has also been invited as an artist for state exhibitions and various national and international programs. In recognition of her contributions, she was felicitated by the AMU Vice- Chancellor and other faculty members.Dr. Kazmi aspires to highlight the true spirit of art, fostering unity and religious harmony, which she believes is essential in today’s world. Her passion lies in contributing to the field of Fine Arts, making it both aesthetically enriching and commercially beneficial for the modern generation.
